J.W. Cortés (a 2012 HOLA Award honoree) is scheduled to sing the Star-Spangled Banner this weekend (November 9-11, 2012) before both the New York Knicks-Dallas Mavericks game (at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan) and the Brooklyn Nets-Orlando Magic game (at Barclays Center in Brooklyn) in commemoration of the former venue’s Military Appreciation Night, the 237th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps (Cortés is also a Marine and a Gulf War veteran) and the U.S. holiday Veterans Day.

Terracino) will be screened at Cinema
Arts Center in Huntington, New York tonight (November 10, 2012) as part of the Long Island Lesbian and Gay Film Festival (LILGFF). The award-winning
film was produced by Terracino and Elizabeth Gardner and co-produced by Juan
Cáceres, stars Robin De Jesús, Elaine
Del Valle (a 2012 HOLA Award recipient), Alfredo Narciso (a 2012 HOLA Award recipient), Cedric Leiba, George Ruiz, Dalia Davi, Monte Bezell, Judy Torres, Bobby DeJesús, Denia Brache and Fabio Costaprado in the cast. For more information, click here or here.
American Lyric Theater’s
popular series of public libretto readings, The Living Libretto, continues this
season at the new National Opera Center. The culmination of extensive libretto
workshops conducted for the new operas currently being written by ALT Resident
Artists, each reading features guest artists. In November, it commissioned and
presented La Reina (libretto by
Laura Sosa Pedroza and music by Jorge Sosa).
Directed by Debbie Saivetz, it featured
Zabryna Guevara (a 2012 HOLA Award recipient), Ed Trucco, Teresa
Yenque, Audrey Esparza, José Joaquín Pérez, Alfredo Huereca (a 2012 HOLA
Award recipient), Gerardo Rodriguez, Gerardo Gudiño (a 2012 HOLA
Award recipient), Antonio Vega, Gabriel Gutiérrez and Israel Hernández, and
took place at the
Francisco Ramos is currently filming The Hardest Love (written and directed by Henry B. Roa), where he plays Latin freestyle singer Víctor Velásquez today, many years after the heyday of Latin freestyle music (the 1980s-early 1990s). The film has released a promotional music video of the song “Let Me Love You”, from the movie. The video features Ramos, in character as Velásquez (billed here as “Victor Velazquez and DJ Lugo Gee”, the latter played by Gilbert Lugo) in his heyday (the video is supposed to take place in the late 1980s).
