QEPD/RIP Sonia Suárez Schwartz

Longtime HOLA member Sonia Suárez Schwartz passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Schuyler Ridge Residential Facility in Clifton Park, New York, after a monthlong illness. A classical and jazz pianist originally from Cuba and trained at the National Conservatory in Havana, Cuba, she had been a Spanish teacher in Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York for 30 years until her retirement.

She worked in Spanish-language voice overs, then as an actress, and ultimately became a prolific playwright, having nine of her plays developed and produced by the not-for-profit production company Danisarte, which then took flight and were produced by other companies throughout the United States.

She also made use of her musical skills as a member of Showstoppers, playing for various institutions. Her energy, vivaciousness and good humor will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her.
