Oscar Núñez, Fred Armisen, Anthony Méndez, More Receive 2016 Primetime Emmy Award Nominations While Latinos/Hispanics Get Shut Out (Again) of Major Acting Categories

The 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations, honoring the best in primetime television programming from June 1, 2015 until May 31, 2016 (as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences), were announced. The nominees were announced by Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham on Thursday, July 14, 2016 live on the Emmy website.

There were no Latinos/Hispanics nominated in the major acting categories. However, Oscar Núñez (shown below left) was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama for his work in "The Crossroads of History" (History), where he is up against his co-star Lou Diamond Phillips.


When it comes to other categories, Fred Armisen (shown above right) is up for two Emmys: for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and (as part of the writing team) for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, both for "Portlandia" (IFC), the latter category pits him up against Julio Torres, who received a nomination for being part of the writing team of "Saturday Night Live" (NBC).

Miguel Sapochnick (shown at left) picked up an Emmy nod for Outstanding Direction for a Drama Series for his work helming one of the most talked about episodes ("Battle of the Bastards") of "Game of Thrones" (HBO).

Anthony Méndez 
(shown at rightpicked up his second consecutive nomination for Outstanding Narrator for his work on "Jane The Virgin" (The CW). (Once again, the show was snubbed in the acting categories for the second straight year.)

Neil deGrasse Tyson (shown at left) earned another Emmy nomination as executive producer and host of "Star Talk with Neil deGrasse Tyson" (National Geographic), nominated for Outstanding Informational Series or Special.

Gus Domínguez received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography of a Reality Program for his work on "Project Runway" (Lifetime), while Dana W. Gonzales picked up a nod for Outstanding Cinematography of a Limited Series or Movie for his work on the FX limited series "Fargo".

Composer Víctor Reyes is up for two awards: Outstanding Music Composition in a Limited Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Original Mail Title Theme Music, both for AMC's "The Night Manager". In the latter category, he will compete against Rodrigo Amarante, nominated for his theme of "Narcos" (Netflix).

In the field of stunt coordination, Eddie Pérez picked up an Outstanding Stunt Coordination in a Comedy Series or Variety Program Emmy nom for his work on "Shameless" (Showtime). In addition, Philip J. Silvera picked up a nod in the category of 
Outstanding Stunt Coordination in a Drama Series, Limited Series, or Movie for his work on "Marvel's Daredevil" (Netflix).

The ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, and will be broadcast in the U.S. by ABC. The ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony will be held over two nights on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, 2016.
