Nominations were announced Monday, May 2, 2016 for the 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, which will take place Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Skirball Center in Manhattan's Greenwich Village overlooking Washington Square Park.
Judith Jamison and Nigel Lythgoe will be honored with special awards at the ceremony. Jamison is artistic director emerita at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Lythgoe is creator and executive director of the Fox television series "So You Think You Can Dance". Maurice Hines will be honored for his body of work.

HOLA member Luis Salgado is nominated for a 2016 Fred and Adele Astaire Award in the category of Best Male Dancer for his work on the Estefan-Estefan-Dinelaris musical On Your Feet!: The Story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan on Broadway.
Also nominated in his category is his category is his On Your Feet! co-star Carlos González, shown below left. Ana Villafañe, shown below right, who plays Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet!, picked up a nomination for Best Female Dancer. In addition, the company of On Your Feet! received a nomination for Outstanding Ensemble in a Broadway Show (where they will compete with, among others, the powerhouse casts of Hamilton and Fiddler on the Roof).

Sergio Trujillo picked up two nominations– one for Best Choreographer for On Your Feet!, and one with Darrell Grand Moultrie for Outstanding Choreography Off-Broadway for Invisible Thread.
Other nominees include Yesenia Ayala (Outstanding Female Dancer Off-Broadway for Trip of Love), James Ortiz (who with Claire Karpen and Will Gallacher picked up a nomination for Outstanding Choreography Off-Broadway for The Woodsman), and Teresa Espinosa (who with Luke Broadlick, Alison Faulk and Channing Tatum received a nomination for Outstanding Choreography in Film for Magic Mike XXL).

The award was established with the cooperation of Fred Astaire to honor him and his sister, Adele, who starred with her brother in ten Broadway musicals between 1917 and 1931.
