THE REVENANT Wins Five BAFTAs; Argentine Film RELATOS SALVAJES (WILD TALES) Wins Best Film Not in the English Language

The 69th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, was held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the Royal Opera House in London, England, United Kingdom to honor the best British and international contributions to film in 2015. Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), accolades are handed out for the best in feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality, that were screened at British cinemas during 2015.

The American film The Revenant won the most BAFTA awards at the event, winning five, including Best Film. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu won his second BAFTA this year (he won one as one of the producers of The Revenant) for Best DirectorEmmanuel Lubezki for Best Cinematography; the team of Chris Duesterdisk, Jon Taylor, Frank A. Montaño, Randy Thom, Martín Hernández and Lon Bender for Best Sound; and Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for Best Actor. Lubezki's win was his third consecutive BAFTA, and fourth in total, having previously won awards for the films Children of MenGravity and Birdman

In addition, the Damián Szifron film Relatos salvajes (Wild Tales) won the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language, where it represented Argentina. Former HOLA Award honoree Benicio Del Toro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Sicario, but he lost out to Mark Rylance for his role in Bridge of Spies. Costume Design nominee Paco Delgado (The Danish Girl) lost the BAFTA to Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road). The Pixar film Inside Out (produced by Jonás Rivera and directed by Pete Docter) won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film.
