HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et musique La Bruja), shown at right, recently performed at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire as part of the college's Black Legacy Month celebrations. She will be performing next with Cynthia Paniagua in Shadow Lands. Created by de la Luz and Paniagua and presented by BAAD! and Pepatían (with the support of VIPMujeres/Violence Intervention Program), the show will be presented in March as part of the BAAD! Ass Women Festival at the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance (BAAD!), located in the Westchester Square area of the Bronx. For more information, click here.

Christian López Lamelasshown at left, is co-starring in the play Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter (La tía Julia y el escribidor). Written by Caridad Svich and based on the autobiographical novel by Mario Vargas Llosa, it is directed by José Zayas and stars Pablo AndradeLuis Carlos de La LombanaGerardo Gudiño, Alfonso Rey, and others. The play is being presented at Repertorio Español's namesake theater, located in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. For more information, click here.


Héctor Luis Rivera, shown at right, was mentioned in the Entreactos y Telones column of the weekly New York City newspaper La Voz Hispana as a result of his directing the Franklin Domínguez play Lisístrata odia la política. Based on the Aristophanes comedy, this award-winning play will star Janelis Batista, Leonel Carrasco, Edú, Altagracia Frías, Agar García, Jannette Mateo, and J. Edgar Mozoub, and be produced in February by the Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos (TEBA) at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Horacio Ontiveros (also known by his nom de communication et médias El Pelón), shown at left, can be heard weekly hosting the radio program "Mexicanos Unidos" (Stereo Mundo-WIBG) on Saturday mornings at 9am ET (it used to also air on Sunday mornings at WWRL New York La Invasora). In addition, he is a producer and director of the webseries "Así es como lo hacemos", starring former HOLA Awards honoree Thalía (it is shown on her personal YouTube channel).
