HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Joseph Ortiz, shown at right, has been quite busy as of late. He co-stars in the feature film The Restaurant (written and directed by Eric Ford-Holevinski), which has just finished production in New York City. He has also appeared in commercials for CityMD and the W Hotel.

Kiki Meléndez did a standup comedy set in November as a guest star of Luis Jiménez Show Live, presented as part of the New York Comedy Festival at the world famous Caroline’s Comedy Club, located in the Times Square district of Manhattan.

José Sepulveda, shown at left, is now a host on Buzz60 Latino. He is the first male host for the online network. For more information, click here.

Jason Torres stars in the short film The Cellist. Written and directed by Arnold Pitre, the film was recently screened at Lovecraft, located in Manhattan’s East Village.

2015 HOLA Awards recipient Edward Azcorra is co-starring in Dinorah Coronado's Secretos de mujer. Directed by Edison Carrera, the Teatro Tocando Puertas production will be presented at the Poet's Den Theater, located in Manhattan's El Barrio neighborhood.

Vladimir Ríos, shown at right, in character, was featured in the December 2015 issue of Poz magazine, where he was profiled for his collaboration with photographer Lester Blum on two photo series: Warrior of Hope and I Still Remember, respectively. Both are narratives taken by Blum featuring Ríos (who also served as artistic director) as the main or lead character. Both series have been published as photo books and are hitting the art gallery circuit, with Warrior of Hope opening at the Brad Brafford LGBT Center in Santa Ana, California, and I Still Remember opening at the Staten Island LGBT Community Center in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island. Caridad de la Luz (also known by her nom de poésie et de musique La Bruja) recently performed at The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, District of Columbia for its Día de los Muertos celebration. The performance can be seen below (note: some adult language).
