HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. A.B. Lugo was selected as Distinguished Puerto Rican Man of the Year by the Mayor of Union City, New Jersey (and New Jersey State Senator) Brian P. Stack and the Union City Board of Commissioners (Lucio Fernández, Maryury A. Martinetti, Tilo E. Rivas, and Celín Valdivia) for his achievements as an actor, writer, director, producer, and arts administrator and advocate. Television host and entrepreneur Mariluz Fontañez was selected as Distinguished Puerto Rican Woman of the Year. [Shown at right, from left to right: Fontañez, Fernández, Lugo.]

Johanna Tolentino, shown at left, was interviewed by Roger S. Maloney for the U-Front Media Insights blog, where she spoke about her career and her latest roles, including a featured role in the latest chapter in the Rocky Balboa film saga, Creed (written by Ryan Coogler and Aaron Covington, based on characters created by Sylvester Stallone and directed by Coogler). The feature film stars Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, and is scheduled for release in the United States in November 2015.  To read the blog, click here.

Jennica Carmona's film Millie and the Lords will be screened at El Puente Arts, located in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. The film, written and directed by Carmona (and co-produced by Joel Arandia), stars Jessica Carmona; Cedric Leiba, Jr.; Mateo Gómez; Millie Tirelli; Alfredo Romeo Suárez; Alfredo Huereca; and Gabriel Castillo. For more information, click here. Manuel A. Morán, shown at left, was showcased in the national newspaper El Especial, where it highlighted the solo show ¡Viva Pinocho! (adapted from the Carlo Collodi tale of Pinocchio), which he adapted, directed and in which he stars. The award-winning show will be performed in April and May by Teatro SEA at its namesake space at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood. Mario Golden was interviewed by Daren Jaime of the BronxNet talk show "Open", where he spoke about the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) and its 40 For 40 fundraising campaign, as well as his work in the upcoming production of El canto de Carlota (Charlotte's Song). Written by Nancy Ferragallo, the dance-theater piece is directed by Andreas Robertz and Golden, choreographed by Ferragallo and Celeste Hastings and stars Golden, Yvette Quintero and Hastings (Quintero can be seen in production photographs during the segment). This will be the piece's Spanish-language world premiere, and it will have a one-evening benefit performance for HOLA on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Flamboyán Theater in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (home to HOLA) in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood.
