HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Laura Patalano, shown at right, stars opposite Harmony Santana in the short film You're Dead To Me (written by Adelina Anthony and directed by Wu Tsang). She and the film were profiled in Black Public Media's blog. To read the blog, click here. To see the short film, click here.

Mónica Delgado will be performing with the Afro-Colombian folkloric dance group Pajarillo Pinta'o at FolkColombia 2014, a celebration of Colombian Independence Day. The performance will take place on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Queens Museum, located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (in front of the world-famous Unisphere).

Walter Krochmal was featured in the July/August 2014 issue of Pie Derecho magazine, where his work as an actor, curator, and founder of the not-for-profit organization Bronx World Film (whose mission is to develop, establish and promote local and community independent motion picture industries) was highlighted. Due to popular demand and critical acclaim, the solo show Edipo is having a return engagement. Produced by Guacamolink, the piece is based on Sofocles' Oedipus Rex and is adapted and directed by Walter Ventosilla and stars Emely Grisanty playing eight characters. The production will have a July and August run at at the 777 Theater, located in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. For more information, click here.

Elaine Del Valle, shown at right, was featured in Latin Trends magazine, where her award-winning self-penned solo show Brownsville Bred (directed by Pamela Moller Kareman) was highlighted. The show is making a return engagement at the Nuyorican Poets' Café, located in Manhattan's Loísaida neighborhood, where it take up residence throughout the summer. To read the article, click here. Jennica Carmona is starring, opposite Felix Jones, in the play Elvira. Written and directed by Jessica Carmona, the play is based on the life of immigration rights activist (and symbol of the immigration rights movement) Elvira Arellano and produced by Sí Se Puede Productions and will run in July at the Clarion Theatre, located in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan. A.B. Lugo has been extremely busy as of late. A short film in which he starred, The Audition, was screened as part of a comedy night, titled We Got Jokes (hosted by Tommy 5000), which took place at El Presidente Bar & Grill, located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. The film was written and directed by Adrian Manzano and also starred Sofía Rodríguez, Tommy Peña and Carolina Ravassa. In addition, he was interviewed for the online television program "Héctor Luis Sin Censura", hosted by Héctor Luis Rivera. In the interview he spoke of being an actor, writer and director. He also promotes his upcoming director gig, Agravios de fortuna (which he conceived and adapted based on the sonnets of William Shakespeare). The production will run in July at the Broadway Blackbox Theater, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, and feature an all-HOLA member cast consisting of Pablo Andrade, Alexandra Manzano and Sebastian Stimman.
