Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced – Nominees Include Christina Pérez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lili Estefan, et al.


New York – May 1, 2014 – The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the nominees for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards.

The Daytime Emmy® Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2am-6pm during the 2013 calendar year. This year’s gala will be held the prestigious Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA on Sunday, June 22, 2014.

The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards gala, which honors the crafts behind the many shows that grace the Daytime genre, will be held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday, June 20, 2014.

In addition to its esteemed nominees, the following individuals were chosen from over 100 entries by a juried live panel in Los Angeles and will be awarded the prestigious Emmy® Award at our Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards on June 20, 2014.

• Ernie Gilbert, Character Design for "T.U.F.F. Puppy" (Nickelodeon)
Eddie Gribbin, Background Design, Marten Johnmark, Storyboard,
Stephen Robinson, Production Design for "Peter Rabbit" (Nickelodeon)

José López, Character Design, Yasuhiro Motoda, Character Animator for "Transformers Prime Beast Hunters" (HUB Network)
• Jennifer Oxley, Production Design for "Peg + Cat" (PBS)
• Christopher Voy, Color for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (Cartoon Network).

In the category of Outstanding Morning Program in Spanish, "Despierta América" (Univision) is up against "Un Nuevo Día" (Telemundo). In the category of Outstanding Entertainment Program in Spanish, three CNN Español programs ("Clix", "Destinos" and "Showbiz") are up against Univision's "El Gordo y La Flaca". The news special "Hecho en América" (mun2) is up against English-language nominees from Here TV, ABC and CBS for the Outstanding Special Class Special category.

In the category of Outstanding Daytime Talent in Spanish, CNN en Español's Patricia Janiot of "Nuestro Mundo" battles three correspondents of Univision's "El Gordo y La Flaca" (Carlos Calderón, Alejandra Espinoza and Rodner Figueroa), as well as that program's co-host (Lili Estefan).

Behind the scenes there are numerous Latinos/Hispanics nominated for Daytime Emmys, including Christina Pérez, whose syndicated program "Justice For All with Christina Pérez"  is up against the syndicated programs "Divorce Court" (hosted by Lynn Toler), "Judge Judy" (hosted by Judge Judy Sheindlin) and "The People's Court" (hosted by Judge Marilyn Milián) in the category of Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program

In addition, Tony Award-winning composer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda is nominated (along with lyricist Luis Santeiro) for Outstanding Original Song for "Rhymes with Mando" for the PBS program "Sesame Street". It is nominated alongside another song from "Sesame Street" (written by Chris Jackson and Joseph Mazzarino), a song from the CBS program "Let's Make A Deal" (written by Cat Gray and Wayne Brady), Disney's "Sofia The First" (written by Craig Gerber and John Kavanuagh) and Nickelodeon's "Peter Rabbit" (written by Peter Zizzo).

Of the programs with multiple nominations, "El Gordo y La Flaca" nabbed five nominations ("The Young and the Restless" from CBS, lead the pack with 26). Of the networks with multiple nominations, CNN en Español received four nods, while CBS lead the pack with 60 nominations (Fusion and mun2 only received one nomination apiece).
