HOLA Member Bochinche

Bochinche refers to “gossip”. In this sense, we use it to mention HOLA members or Friends of HOLA who are getting acting, performance or similarly artistic gigs and/or recognition in the media. Edison Carrera, shown at right, received a special citation for his work in the arts by Joel Rivera, the Majority Leader of the City Council in commemoration of Ecuadorian Heritage Month.

Carla Caraballo and Mauricio Pita shot a promo for the Major League Baseball postseason to air on TBS, in which they starred with retired New York Mets pitcher and current sports analyst Ron Darling.

Edwin Pagán was recently interviewed on the radio program "Street Soldiers" (hosted by Lisa Evers) on New York's Hot 97 (97.1 FM) as part of a program called "Latinos Making Moves" in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Other guests included hip hop artist Audubon, comedian-actor Ruperto Vanderpool and singer Maluca.

Irma-Estel LaGuerre, shown at left, is set to star in Richard Abrons' Every Day A Visitor. Directed by Margarett Perry, the play will be produced from October through mid-December by the New Federal Theatre at Theater Row in the theater district of midtown Manhattan.

Francis Mateo performed poetry (accompanied by the jazz band Armonía 3) from his published book of poetry, Ubre Urbe, at Boricua College (located in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood) in September as part of the VII Feria del Libro Dominicano en New York (Seventh Annual New York Dominican Book Fair). Written by Vetere, the play is directed by Melody Brooks and Daniela Caggiano and produced by the New Perspectives Theatre Company at its namesake studio located in the fashion district of midtown Manhattan. Billy Martin Mejía and Ramón Hierro performed in an adaptation of Haffe Serulle's Duarte (adapted and directed by Luis Felipe Rodríguez), in which the former played the titular character, Juan Pablo Duarte (the founding father of the Dominican Republic), and the latter played Manolo Tavárez Justo. The production took place in September at the opening of the VII Feria del Libro Dominicano en New York (Seventh Annual New York Dominican Book Fair) at the United Palace Theater in Manhattan's Washington Heights and commemorated the bicentennial of Duarte's birth.

Elaine Del Valle is launching the new comedy web series "Reasons Y", where she serves as co-writer, director, editor, executive producer and one of the stars. The episode are named after numbers, as in "Reason Y  'I'm Single' #42", which can be seen below. (Note: Strong language.) To see further episodes, click here.
