NALIP-NY and Tío Louie presents the Prime Latino Media Salon (November 2012)


invite you to the
PRIME LATINO MEDIA SALON
 a monthly series for Latino multimedia-makers & actors in the metropolitan New York area


A forum for Latinos and their supporters to connect and sustain one another in English- and Spanish-language media, as well as feature a conversation with a speaker, screening or panel discussion.

8:00PM: A FIRESIDE CHAT by Tio Louie with Carmen Oquendo-Villar, co-director of the dicumentary short La aguja (The Needle), which will premiere on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 9:45pm under the "Portraits" section of the DOCS NYC Festival.

8:30PM: Latino Media Video Slam: Producers & Directors share samples of either their completed works or their works-in-progress. Contact Tio Louie for submissions by e-mailing him.

2012 has been declared the "Year of the Latina" and will showcase stellar Latinas
behind or in front of the camera and Latinos who present Latinas
in positive and affirming roles.

CARMEN OQUENDO-VILLAR
She is a Puerto Rican filmmaker, art curator and media scholar. She studied film at New York University's Graduate Film Program and is currently an Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies, Media Theory and Filmmaking at the State University of New York, Purchase. She has been the recipient of the Guggenheim, Rockefeller, Fulbright and Jacob Javits grants, among others. Her documentary, La aguja (the Needle), co-directed by José Correa Vigier and produced by Felipe Tewes, participated in both NALIP's Latino Producers Academy (LPA) and Latino Media Market (LMM), as well as the Latino Artists Mentoring Program (LAMP).
