started the year off with a role in Taylor Hackford's film Parker, starring Jason Statham and Jennifer López and followed that up with an invite to participate in the New Filmmakers festival with a documentary I directed last year, Art Galleries & Back Alleys. The same documentary which also screened last year in New York at Tiny Lights Film Festival (produced by Anthony Ruiz and Teatro LATEA) and has now been invited to participate in the upcoming Reel Rasquache Art & Film Festival in Los Angeles this coming May. Art Galleries & Back Alleys documents the artistic collaboration between two distinguished Chicano artists as they transform a luxury hybrid vehicle into a hybrid piece of art. This is Carrasco's second journey as a director into the festival world (his first foray into that world was the drama short film, Honesty, Pencil, Rose, about a young woman confronting her father's advancing dementia).J.W. Cortés presented the short film Conscientious Objector (in which he wrote, directed and starred) as part of The Decisions Short Film Showcase. The film, which had Edwin Pagán (see below) as its cinematographer, also starred Giselle Forté, Mônica Steuer, Martín Chávez, Jorge Humberto Hoyos, Kutcha, Marisol Carrere, Gilbert Cruz, Jaime Santana and Kareem Saviñón, and was screened in April at Neirs' Tavern in the Woodhaven section of Queens. Laura Gómez is screening her short film To Kill A Roach (in which she wrote, directed and starred) in April at an event at the Galway Pub in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan. The film was photographed by Edwin Pagán (see above) and also starred Iván Camilo, Jenniffer Díaz, Gabriela García, Rosie Berrido, Gabriel Gutiérrez and Puy Navarro.
Sully Bonnelly and Albania Matos finished work on the short film Goodbye Apathy (written and directed by Osaretin Omorodion).
Emmanuelle Bordas performed a program of classical and modern compositions in April at the Ida K. Lang Recital Hall, located in Manhattan's Upper East Side. The operatic soprano performed the works of Georg Friedrich Händel, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Mickey Carroll, Joaquín Rodrigo and Rafael Hernández. She was accompanied by Naoko Aita (piano and clavichord), Alicia Skrabut Furey (cello), Mike DelFino (double bass) and Donna Kelly (percussion).
