Daniel Anthony Hidalgo, shown at left, was cast in the production of Guillén de Castro's play La fuerza de la costumbre (directed by Freddy Mancilla) based to an HOLA referral. The play from Spain's Golden Age (which also stars Mauricio Pita (see below), Nanda
Abella, Juan Carlos Díaz and Ricardo J. Salazar) is set for an August and September run at Repertorio Español (as part of the 2013 Van Lier Young Directors Project) in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. For more information, click here.
Susanna Guzmán, shown at right, will be performing in not one, but two plays at the New York
International Fringe Festival (fringeNYC), taking place this August. The
first one is Double Fault (written and directed by Troy Diana), while the second is Why You Beasting?
(written by David Don Miller and directed by Markus Potter). The former
will be presented at The Lynn Redgrave Theater (formerly known as the 45 Bleecker Theater) in Manhattan's NoHo
neighborhood, while the latter will be presented at the Flamboyán
Theater, located in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational

The Bruno Irizarry film 200 cartas, will hit theaters in select movie theaters

About the teachers...
Tony Plana, a thirty-five year veteran actor/director, with over 60 feature film credits and six on-air series as a regular, most notably "Resurrection Blvd." and "Ugly Betty", received his initial professional training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. He has been honored for his work with multiple Nosotros, Shine, ALMA, Imagen, SAG, Satellite, and HOLA awards and nominations. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Artistic Director of the East LA Classic Theatre where he has adapted and directed provocative productions of Shakespeare plays and other world classics for disadvantaged students. Directing credits also include two comedy feature films, several television episodes including "Desperate Housewives", and a half-hour sitcom. He has been a guest lecturer, master teacher, and conducted seminars in acting, auditioning, and directing at numerous universities throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Charles Carroll attended Loyola University on academic scholarships from the Copley Foundation and the State of California. Graduating with a degree in Theatre, he received his professional training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Returning to the U.S., he toured for the next several years in a production of The Unfinished Revolution, the story of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson’s famous disagreements on the financial structure of our country, a play that he co-authored. In 1979, he opened the Garden Theatre Festival at the University of Southern California with the premiere of his own one-man show on the life of Walt Whitman, I Hear America Singing. He has performed with regional theaters, repertory companies and Shakespeare Festivals throughout the country.

Teresa Yenque, shown at right, was honored as "Peruvian of the Year" and given a special recognition for her
lifetime achievement in film, television and theater. It was presented to her
on Peru's Independence Day (Sunday, July 28, 2013) by Lucio Fernández, also shown at right, on behalf of Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners of Union City, New Jersey, of which Fernández is one. Yenque left behind her native Peru at the age of 19 to become an actress in the United States, where she has enjoyed a long, successful career.

Rita Moreno to receive SAG Life Achievement Award from SAG-AFTRA
The Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards (nicknamed "The Actors") announced today that the beloved stage and screen icon Rita Moreno
has been named the 50th recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute – the
SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian
accomplishment. Given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest
ideals of the acting profession”, the union’s top accolade will be given
out at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards
simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, January 18, 2014.
The actress, singer, dancer, author, political and cultural and diversity activist and educator also has won an Oscar, two Emmys, a Tony, a Grammy, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the National Medal of the Arts. One of the top honors at the HOLA Awards is the Rita Moreno HOLA Award for Excellence. At age 81, the Puerto Rican-born Moreno has had a nearly 70-year career and currently plays Fran Drescher’s mother in TV Land’s "Happily Divorced" and recently wrote her autobiography Rita Moreno: A Memoir, which became a 2013 bestseller.
